This mountain is positioned directly west from the suburb of Surfers Paradise in Gold Coast city and is home to the first National Park declared in Queensland aptly named Mount Tamborine National Park. This protected area is scattered across 14 separate reserves which make up the national park, interspersed with villages.
There are bushwalks that include spectacular lookouts, gorges, cliffs, waterfalls, rainforest, eucalypt forest, and woodlands. Wildlife in the park includes Lyrebirds, Platypus, Brush-turkeys, Lorikeets, Eastern Whipbirds and Satin Bowerbirds. The significance of the park is underscored by the fact that it provides a habitat for 85% of all fauna species and 65% of all flora species in the Gold Coast City area.
